English Department

The Lighthouse Christian Preparatory English department strives to foster effective writing, speaking, and reading skills in our students in order to prepare them to be 21st century learners and citizens. Our progressive and passionate faculty merges tradition and innovation as we help our students find relevance in literature of all eras, cultures, and mediums while also providing them with opportunities to improve the communication and critical-thinking skills necessary in a technology-based society. Most importantly, in an effort to emphasize Christianity and global citizenship, we emphasize compassion, academic honesty, and ethical practice in all we study.

Our ninth-grade course overviews literature across the major genres, our tenth-grade course literature from around the world, our eleventh-grade course American literature from the colonial period to contemporary times, and our twelfth-grade course European literature from the Middle Ages to the present. Our courses involve Socratic discussion, analytical reading, extensive research, advanced composition, study of effective grammar and rhetoric, vocabulary development, and study of art, music, and film to enhance understanding of literature. Students use online tools to discuss, research, edit, and peer review materials and exercises. As a result of our high standards and progressive curriculum, our students realize much success on standardized tests and in the university classroom

Science Department

The science department at Lighthouse Christian Preparatory School is committed to helping students prepare for the 21st century workplace by incorporating communications, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity into our lessons and objectives by asking scientific questions and finding ways to answer those questions. We encourage the use of technology and a "hands-on projects based approach" in our lessons as we tackle relevant real world issues along with mastering the college preparatory curriculum from each of our science courses.

World Language Department

The mission of the World Language Department is to provide students with the opportunity to learn to understand, speak, read, and write in the target language, at the same time developing a global awareness and knowledge of different cultures. The use of computer/multi-media technology connects students to a broader linguistic and cultural learning experience. Foreign language study enriches and enhances the entire education experience of the student by connecting with other disciplines in the curriculum.

Lighthouse Christian Preparatory School offers four levels of Spanish. The completion of two years of the same language satisfies the requirement for graduation and entrance into most four year colleges.
